New Carport Concrete Slab Installed - Cracking?

Concrete finishers like to say that every slab is guaranteed to have at least one crack. The earth is not the solid piece of rock that everyone imagines it is, and most places the ground is constantly moving, as freezing and thawing occurs, moisture levels change, and geologic changes occur. It's hardly surprising that concrete cracks given all of these factors. That's not even getting involved in the fact the surface might not have been evenly compacted or filled. Pouring concrete is an inexact art, and nobody always gets that perfectly smooth carpet of pure continuous concrete they might be hoping for - that's a goal, but in real life, cracks occur. If this makes you feel bad, take a look at the concrete floors in your favorite stores, say. You'll see lots of cracks there, too. :)
